Epson, one of the vanguards of the Giclée printing process, maintains that the use of their products, Epson inks on Epson canvas, will give the correct chemical bonding that Epson guarantees for 80 - 100 yrs of archival life. We recommend that these images are then lacquered with a matt, satin or gloss finish using a product approved by Epson as giving an additional 10 years of light fastness to the image (provided it is not placed in direct sunlight). This lacquer is important as it: (a) helps to protect the print finish, (b) helps prevent the cracking that can occur if the canvas is stretched too tightly or is inadequately finished, and (c) provides an easy care surface on the print. (Care instructions are provided with purchase of the product.)
Stretch canvas frames are sourced, where possible, using local fine grained timbers (eg. In South Africa - Obeche). An appropriately fine grained timber is important in the prevention of warping. This timber is then correctly profiled and finished with artists tape to protect your canvas and give you a quality long life finish. All products are inspected and given an approved quality stamp for your assurance and are labelled with details of title, artist, size and recorded limited edition.
Images printed on Ilford Pearl Media are given an archival guarantee by the printing company chosen, and have a satin or gloss finish. Where beneficial, images are sprayed with a fixative to give a higher light fast guarantee. We advise that these images are appropriately framed with glass protection.
