About The Artist

Shirlee McGarvey Gleeson originates from Australia where she first discovered she had a natural flare for design. Later, whilst studying and practicing aspects of fashion and interior design, her fascination with the potential of nature, vistas and objects around her to offer exciting visions and inspiration, was further developed by an introduction to the complex art of photography.

Shirlee brings a fresh vision to the interpretation and expression of visual images around us. Strong shapes and colours give an often 3-dimensional vibration to the canvas. Her work is influenced by a rich tapestry of living much of her life in Europe, international travel, photography, interior, house, garden, furniture and fashion design. Tai chi teaching and practice as a complimentary therapist and healer adding a spiritual depth. Living more recently in South Africa has added yet another vibrant dimension to her interpretations.

Her unique designs encourage you to look more deeply into everyday objects around you and form a bridge between the worlds of classic photography, art and design. The results of her interpretations are predominantly abstract, linear, organic, dynamic and distinctive. Her work has international appeal, as evidenced by feedback from her most recent exhibition in South Africa, and encompasses a range of themes inspired by textures, shapes and visual energies evident in flora and fauna, landscape, cultural, technical and architectural visions in life.
